Do It Yourself: Baby Headband Out of Old T-Shirts

By: Melinda Dilione

I can’t believe how cute this headband turned out! This Do It Yourself Baby Headband is SO easy and you can make it with supplies hanging around your house!  My daughter Annabelle was happy to model the finished product for her 6-month “birthday” photo 🙂

What you Need:

  • Old t-shirts (fabric with a little give)
  • Fabric for the flower (or extra t-shirt…I decided to use fabric)
  • Needle and Thread
  • Fabric Scissors

How to make your own Baby Headband:

Step 1: Cut a strip out of the t-shirt that is about 2 inches wide (or however wide you want it to be) – don’t worry about the ends being perfect because they tuck under easily.  Measure your baby’s head to get an idea of how long of a piece you should use.

Step 2: Sew the 2 ends of the t-shirt together loosely – doesn’t have to be a tight stitch.

Step 3: Tighten stitched area and make some kind of knot if possible – it should scrunch together.

Step 4: Cut fabric and extra t-shirt in circles (I made 6-8) varying in sizes and place one on top of the other from largest to smallest.

Step 5: Grab the bottom of the circles and pinch together to make a flower shape – sew through the middle to hold flower shape together.

Step 6: Sew flower to headband knot through the middle and under the flower.

This was a fun, simple, and thrifty project.  I will definitely be making more!
